Tain develops a plan to destroy
the Dominion before it becomes a danger for the Alpha Quadrant. Therefore, he reclaims his
office as head of the Obsidian Order and secretly contacts the Romulan Tal Shiar without
the knowledge of the Cardassian Central Command, intending to collaborate with them.
Unfortunately, the founders come to know of the plan and decide to support it. |

Without the legitimation of their
respective governments, the Romulan-Cardassian fleet of the Tal Shiar and the Obsidian
Order travel to the homeworld of the founders to wipe it out. Together with Colonel Lovok
from the Tal Shia, Tain is the leader of the mission. Arriving at the destination, it
turns out to be trap, since Lovok is a changeling. The fleet is beaten und Tain remains
badly injured on the leading ship. He is captured by the founders and put in the
internment camp 371. During the next two years of his imprisonment, his physical condition
visibly deteriorates. |

Tain submits a signal to his
former student and agent Elim Garak at Deep Space Nine, informing him that he is about to
die. Shortly after the arrival of Garak, he dies from cardiac problems caused by the long
imprisonment. |
